Slower Winter – Perfect for Laser Engraving

As we approach the Christmas season, I have found that I have a bit more time on my hands. Crazy, I know! Seems that lots of folks find themselves busier this time of year than any other! I think spending some time out in the garage laser engraving is good winter therapy. Especially with a much better heating system than I’ve had in the past!

Anyway, with my new found free time, I’m looking to get a collection of posts together on how I set up my lasers, cabinets and exhaust systems. I’m in need of a serious break from some of the computer related stuff!

I’ve paused working on some of the computer related things I planned on posting here to get through the busy summer we’ve had. Promise, it’s just a pause, I’ll get back to that later this winter when it’s really cold and snowy.

I’ll go over how some of the jigs I’ve created that take a lot of the guesswork out of creating things like coasters, leather patches, drink wear and ornaments. Once the posts are created, I’ll get them organized here so I can share some of the knowledge I’ve gained laser engraving for the wife’s coffee shop! They’ve been busy this year selling coffee and crystals. If you’re in central MN, stop in. Shameless plug here: www.Brewedgems.com

I’ve noticed there are a few good resources out there for setting up DIY laser cabinets, but wanted to improve on them a bit. I’ll get some pictures together about how I put mine together for relatively cheap with dimensional lumber and particle board.

The exhaust system I currently have running works, but I’d like to improve on that as well, so I’ll take you on that journey too.

I really want to go over how I’ve been doing the finish work on some of these wood projects that have turned out awesome. Especially some of the differences I’ve noticed on water and oil based stains to help accent the natural char coming off the laser!

Stay tuned I’ll post more again soon! If you’re interested in some of the other projects I have going, have a look at the front page!
